Let me start by saying that I’m not Vegan. I’m definitely a meat eater, but I am one that is always willing to try out new things. So, my wife and I decided we’d give the “Red Curry Vegan Kitchen” a try. And, we were not disappointed at all.
The food was very good. We decided to order three dishes so that we could try things out figuring that we’d just take home whatever was leftover. Each dish was excellent. We had an Eggplant dish that had really nice flavor that I enjoyed a lot. We also ordered a red curry dish because you have to have a bit of curry from a place called “Red Curry”, and the flavor of the sauce was awesome. And then, we ordered a noodle dish to round out our meal. For each dish, you get to choose a “protein” so we got black beans in the first one (which took on the flavor of the sauce amazingly well), regular tofu in the second one, and then fried tofu in the third. I have to say that the flavors were really great and for me the only thing missing was a bit of meat. As a meat eater, if I could have had a bit of chicken in the curry, the meal would have been perfect. But, I guess I went in knowing there wasn’t any.
Each dish came with brown rice that was really tasty, a fried wanton, and a spring roll (with some dipping sauce). The spring roll was really crunchy and I’m happy that we ordered three dishes because I got to have an extra half of one. I do love spring rolls!
Beyond that, the service was excellent. As a new customer, we asked the waitress what her favorites where and she answered in such a warm and friendly manner that it made it easy to choose. She told us about the dishes as we asked and clearly had tried them (and had her favorites). Throughout the meal she was also attentive. Otherwise, the ambiance is a bit sparse, but clean and comfortable. It is located where Martanne’s was before they moved. Also, the cost is very reasonable and inexpensive at around $8 per dish (which includes the rice and appetizers).
In the end, I couldn’t quite give it a “10” because it didn’t wow me – it was very good though – and came really close. I think it’s the meat eater in me that can’t give it a perfect score…!
