Pharming, Phishing, Scams and Fraudsters:
What YOU need to know to protect your identity and your assets
Held on Wednesday, November 14th at 6 p.m. at Kickstand Kafé
This lecture is presented by Jenny Staskey, CPA, CDFA, CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner)
~ Ever received an email from your employer requesting that you provide your login and password information due to some software upgrade or glitch?
~ Ever receive an email from your bank asking you to provide personal information such as your date of birth, SSN and account number?
~ Ever receive an email from a relative claiming to be trapped in a foreign country with no way out unless you wire them funds?
If you said “yes” to any of the above, then you have most likely been the target of a scam.
Join us as we discuss tips for protecting yourself so that you don’t become the next victim with a stolen identity or a bank account that has been zeroed out by a fraudster. Discussion points will include tips from the FBI, Onguardonline and www.fraud.org. We will also discuss what to do if your identity has been stolen as well as the process for reporting various scams or frauds.
Discussion facilitator: Jenny Staskey, CPA, CDFA, CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), is a Lecturer of Accounting at NAUs W.A. Franke College of Business as well as a private practitioner with a niche in the area of forensic accounting, fraud investigations, and litigation support in divorce cases.
Please Note that the DATE of this event is one week earlier than usual due to the Thanksgiving Holidays.
This lecture is part of the Flag Tech Talk discussion series that is held on the third Wednesday of every month. These technical lectures are designed to help educate regular people so they understand more about computers, the internet, and the resources available to them when it comes to managing their small business or organization. They are sponsored by Flagstaff Central.com, Inc. and Orig’native LLC. These are more personal discussions than lectures and we’d encourage everyone to come armed with questions…!
